According to what Sergio Cuevas, Comteco Video Product Coordinator confirmed to NexTV Latam, the cooperative, located in the city of Cochabamba in Bolivia, will launch DTH in that city next September 9. Initially, the service had been announced for August. The DTH, which will utilize Media Networks platform, will complement the cooperative cable TV service, which records 9,000 subscribers. After a year, the DTH is expected to reach the rest of the country.
On Tuesday 6, September, Comteco will hold a press conference where the cooperative will disclose further details of its service. 'We were a little late because some equipment did not arrive on time, but now everything is ready', Cuevas stated.
In Cochabamba, Comteco expects to record a thousand DTh subscribers in a year. 'At the beginning, we want to reach the rest if the people we have not been able to satisfy with our cable TV analog network'. This is the reason why the DTH accounts for a new Pay-TV bet of the cooperative. 'We cannot develop any further with cable, because improvements in the coaxial network are too expensive', the executive recognized.
In Bolivia, Entel offers DTH through TuVes HD platform, which, in turn, has already started operations with its own brand in the country. Therefore, Comteco will be the third satellite TV market option, though so far, only in Cochabamba.
