Premiere has succeeded in persuading Deutsche Telekom to allow it to screen coverage of the German Bundesliga football competition. Premiere subscribers will be able to access the coverage providing they are also subscribers to Telekom’s broadband package. Premiere will also produce the live soccer coverage for Telekom. The deal gives Premiere a chance to make up some of the ground it has lost since the acquisition of the Bundesliga rights by Unity Media’s programming arm Arena.
However, the deal concerning IPTV rights allowed enough wriggle room for Premiere to re-enter the market and offer its subscribers continued live football after the completion of the World Cup. In order to see the broadcasts, Premiere subscribers will need to upgrade to one of its new combo boxes capable of both satellite and IPTV reception.
